Frequently Asked Questions
What is a corrosion coupon and how does it work?
A corrosion coupon is a small, pre-weighed metal specimen that is inserted into a process stream to measure the rate of corrosion over time. After a defined exposure period, the coupon is retrieved, cleaned, and re-weighed. The weight loss is used to calculate the corrosion rate in mm/year or mpy (mils per year). This provides a direct, quantitative measure of how aggressively the process environment is attacking the piping material.
What materials are available for corrosion coupons?
HovoyPetro offers corrosion coupons in carbon steel (A36, 1018, 1020), stainless steel (304, 316, 316L), duplex 2205, Hastelloy C276, Alloy 20, Monel 400, Inconel 625, and custom alloys. The coupon material should match the material of the pipeline or vessel being monitored.
What is the difference between a fixed and retractable injection quill?
A fixed quill is permanently installed and requires a process shutdown for maintenance or replacement. A retractable quill can be inserted and removed through a pressure-sealed gland while the system remains under full operating pressure, eliminating the need for shutdowns. Retractable quills are preferred for offshore, remote, and high-uptime applications.
What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
For standard corrosion coupons, our MOQ is 50 pieces per material and size. For access fittings and injection quills, MOQ is typically 5 pieces. Custom configurations may require higher MOQs depending on the tooling involved. We are flexible and will work with you on smaller trial orders.
How long is the typical lead time?
Standard corrosion coupons: 1-2 weeks. Access fittings: 2-3 weeks. Injection quills: 2-3 weeks. Rush orders can be accommodated for standard products. Complex custom orders may require 4-6 weeks.
Do you provide material test reports?
Yes, all products are supplied with mill test reports (MTC) per EN 10204 Type 3.1 as standard. Additional testing (PMI, hardness, impact, NACE compliance) is available on request.
